Hello Potential Applicant to the EECS PhD Program!
We want to welcome you as you are considering applying for the doctoral program in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology! Graduate school at MIT will prepare you to become a field leader, will invite you to work on innovative teams, and ultimately, you will contribute to advancing knowledge.

Below, please add these important virtual event dates into your calendar; the event goal is to provide more information about graduate school in EECS at MIT. The chair of EECS graduate admissions will host the discussions, and will offer an overview of the EECS department and the graduate admission process.
We will convene a panel of both faculty and senior PhD students to discuss research and academic expectations for the first year of the PhD journey. We hope they will share advice to set you up for success as a PhD graduate student in year #1. If you have started an application in Grad Apply, you will receive (via email) more information on how to attend these virtual discussions as the date nears.
The Nov. 13th 3:30-5:00pm ET Webinar with all applicants in the EECS Graduate Admissions portal (this session will be recorded and will be available to view until the application website closes on Dec. 1st)
We invite you to join us on Thursday, November 13th at 3:30pm ET for a virtual conversation. Starting your PhD can
feel both exciting and overwhelming. This Zoom conversation is designed to help new doctoral students navigate the
crucial first steps of their journey PhD journey. Whether you're in the process of selecting a research
supervisor, setting your first research and academic goals, or just figuring out where to find support, this
session provides viewpoints from EECS faculty and senior PhD students in EECS at MIT. Our goal is to help you to
learn what to expect and the panelists will share advice about how to have a successful year #1 in your PhD
journey at MIT or elsewhere!
Here I want to offer some details of the agenda and share the logistics.
Agenda is as follows:
3:35pm ET: Welcome by moderators Dr. Amanda Beyer-Purvis (Director of Community Engagement and Outreach) and Professor Leslie Kolodziejski, Chair of Graduate Admissions in EECS and Graduate Officer of EECS
3:40pm ET: Panel conversation with EECS faculty and senior grad students
4:35pm ET: Additional questions submitted through Slido application by attendees will be posed to panelists
5:00pm ET: Close of Webinar
Logistics:
1. From now until noontime ET Thursday, November 13th, please submit any questions you wish for the panelists to
address and offer your votes for the most important questions. Your questions can be submitted via this Slido

2. Using the same Slido link above, join the webinar conversation on Thursday, November 13th, from 3:30-5:00pm ET.
3. The discussion will be recorded live. Following the event, the video will be closed-captioned and added to the
EECS YouTube channel. Information regarding how to access the recorded video will be forthcoming. The video will
be available for viewing until December 1st, 2025.
